Let’s just say….

It was a crazzzzy weekend, last weekend.

My BFF’s youngest daughter got married. She (the BFF) is originally from Norway. Oodles of Norveeejuns vas ober here for dis vedding, ya! OOf Dah!. The groom’s family is from Turkey. They came. They saw Americans. They’ll never be the same.

They combined many of the rituals and customs of both nationalities in this four-day-wedding-extravaganza! Evidently drinking and dancing are universally recognized as the way to start off a marriage. ( I happen to know it helps the rest of the time, too!)

On Thursday there was a ceremony for the women where henna is applied to one palm  of each lady to assure luck. I got a big blob of it in my right hand. A piece of gauze was placed over that and tied in the back of my hand. I was told to leave it for 20 minutes then wash it off.

Platter of Turkish wedding henna and accoutrements

The bride has henna applied to both hands, then a lacy bag is tied over her hands while the henna does its dying magic, leaving the bride-to-be with stinky orange palms.

Bride-to-be before henna

Bride-to-be before henna

Supposedly it signifies purification of some sort. All I know is it doesn’t come off for a couple of weeks and it kinda smells like sour cooked spinach.

Then there were the belly dancers who tried to teach us how to shake that groove thang.

groovethang

I tried it. I think I am missing some extra hinge-y  thing in my hips  that lets her do this!

The next morning I woke up, went to the bathroom, did my business, wiped and then saw that brownish-orange blotch and thought I’d shit on my own hand! It took me a minute to realize that it was indeed the henna and not me being nasty. Well, we drank some the night before…

Friday evening was more dancing, more drinking. Then some more eating, drinking, and then more dancing.   One lady snuck a grab of D’Bear’s ass while he was on the dance floor!  It pretty much made his whole weekend! LOL

Saturday, Wedding Day, turned out sunny and beautiful. The bride was radiant, the groom marvelously handsome, the ceremony poignant and heartfelt. Then there was more dancing. LOTS of dancing! Drinking and dancing and dancing and drinking! A good time was had by all…. I think. I know I had fun!

Sunday I paid the piper (f*cking piper!). D’Bear and I mowed fields for six hours in the hot sun.  It’s amazing what a few Excedrin, a pot of strong coffee, and a tractor rumbling under you can do!

Not a DAMNED THING!  I still felt like hell!

Is this what it’s gonna be like??

My dearest friend, W. , is 9 years older than I and in the past two years has gone through several serious and life-threatening health issues. Her husband has also had a few surgeries the past few years after a lifetime of really bad habits. Now they spend half their time going from one doctor to another. Her calendar is filled with doctor appointments, lab tests, MRIs, and check-ups with one specialist after another.

Recently I re-injured a badly torn rotator cuff injury in my left shoulder while doing any one of a dozen chores around this big old farm of mine. It could have been caused by picking up huge rocks from the field or from restacking the wood pile, or perhaps moving 5-gallon gas cans around. Who knows?

Either way , the result has been that I am often brought  to tears from the wrong movement of my left arm. In the mornings I have learned that the only way to tackle the day is to get up, put the coffee on, and take a pain killer! Then maybe twenty minutes later, after a hot shower, I can hook my bra and pull up my pants without being brought to my knees from the pain.

I have an appointment with my internist tomorrow to get the ball rolling on repairing this injury. Insurance companies have a whole series of procedures one must endure, in the proper order, in order to get anything done. So I see my internist  who will send me for x-rays and an MRI and then from there I will see an orthopedic surgeon. Having a daughter who is a physical therapist comes in handy here because she sees first-hand the work done by our local surgeons and knows who to recommend.

Yesterday I had a follow-up visit with my gastroenterologist and today I had a check-up at my OB/Gyn’s  and tomorrow I see the internist. AAGGH!!! I am becoming like my friend! Every day filled with doctors and tests and poking and prodding and co-pays!!

 I hate getting older.

weekend update

soaking sun
I LOVE having people visit me. The farm is plenty big enough for company and I was born to cater parties and make people welcome.
So D’Bear and I had some friends from “the city” down for a country weekend. They are younger than us by almost 10 years. She’s 47 and he’s just turned 40 ( bless his heart! he’s a boy toy!) They always act so excited to come to the farm and go biking and kayaking and hiking and of course drinking, smoking, and eating!

They arrived Friday and, while they are lovely and friendly and sweet and complimentary, they are also lazy!! I kept asking if anyone wanted to GO DO SOMETHING but all I kept hearing was ” maybe later…” and “Nah, I’m enjoying just lying in the sun” (as they ate the quesadillas and homemade pizzas I prepared.)

While I enjoy lying in the sun doing nuffin’ as much as the next middle-aged woman, I also get the screamin’ meemies after a day or two of sunworshipping and magazine reading and eating and drinking. I NEED to MOVE IT! No one wanted anything to do with activity. NADA!
ScreamingWoman1_300H

OK, that’s cool. I busted my nut trying to make this a weekend get-away to remember but I really think the only thing they’re gonna remember is the vaguest memory of a hangover on Monday! I mean, after all the posturing about fitness that he does (he goes to the gym 6 days a week) and the comments about how cool it would be to kayak out on our local lakes or bike along the river, I made sure the bikes were in good shape, I pumped up all the tires, oiled the chains, checked the gears, etc. I loaded the kayaks in the bed of the old Dodge pick up so that we could be on the water in 15 minutes or less. I even found lots of extra gear like hiking boots and hiking poles, flotation devices, water bottles, old sneakers and water shoes, back packs, and so on. The weather was more than adequate for any of these activities most of the long Memorial Day weekend.

I never really expected D’Bear to go kayaking. He doesn’t really like the water and doesn’t swim well. She has been working crazy hours and I know she needed some plain old down time but HIM!
workout
Oh, well. I can feel pretty good about myself now when I am sitting on D’Bear’s porch of an evening and he walks past in his workout clothes being all Mr. I-Am-Going-To-The-Y-Now-But-You-Are-Too-Lazy-To-Go-With. HAHAHA!!!

I could probably kick his ass if I needed to.

Bongo, Douglas, & SuperPickle Visit Trisha

What a day! I am SO exhausted! I never realized how tiring it can be playing referee babysitter  hostess to three exuberant Buddies at the same time!

The first thing we did was to go down to my studio because I really wanted Douglas to meet someone special to me.  This is my own personal papier mache dragon posing with Douglas. They got along great! It was so cute to see Dougie acting like a little brother for a change rather than the big ,fire-breathing bad   boy !

p33100031

Little Bongo met my studio pal, Mr. Music, who’s very old but still likes to play pranks on unsuspecting monkeys! Boy, little Bongo got an earful!

p3310005

SuperPickle wanted to try his hand at painting so I let him have a go at one of my paintings in progress. He did OK for a first time! (Notice the part he wanted to paint?)

p3310007

It was soon time for lunch so I made us a nice picnic: pimento cheese sandwiches, grapes, and lemonade. The sun was shining and the had quite an appetite!

picnic2

Douglas wandered off and suddenly these voluptuous wood nymphs who live out behind the barn were giggling and rubbing themselves all over him!I had to take a broom to them and they gave me the evil eye as they flew back into the forest! Uh, oh… I think I’ll be sorry for that one!

p4010019

Bongo got excited to see a hardy kiwi vine in the backyard. He climbed all the way to the top! I guess he had a sugar high from all that lemonade!

bongo

I promised them an edventure and so I took them for a hard rock climb to burn off some of that energy. Douglas and Bongo had no trouble scaling the wall but SuperPickle was breathing hard by the time he reached the summit!

p4010022

Ahhh, the view was worth the effort!

p4010024

As promised I saved one little challenge for Douglas… the burn barrel. He lit it like a pro! And he was mighty proud of his firey display!

douglas

They basked in the warm sun for a little siesta. They liked the view of the old barn and while they dozed I took a tiny break myself!

p4010028

Before we even realized it , it was time to call it a day. They looked rather pensive as the gazed out over the pasture here at the farm. I sure hope they had a good time. I know I did! But MAN, am I tired!

p33100081

Finally! Buddies are here!!

After ten days in Rochester with my honey I have finally returned home to PA.  On Saturday we had temperatures in the 60s there and enjoyed sitting on the front porch in the sunshine for a couple of hours in the afternoon. Today’s ride home was another matter entirely!  I hit misty rain for most of the 3 1/2 hour drive but when I got nearer to home I found I had just missed a pretty big snow squall. Passing a couple of horses out in their pasture gave me proof. They still had snow on their backs!

I had three buddies waiting for me when I got home! I hate coming home to an empty house so this was the BEST!

Sometimes the buddies go to their host’s homes one at a time but since I am away a great deal of the time they tend to clump up. That’s kinda fun for all of us!!p3310655

Douglas used his special Dragon skills to light a few candles in the house to warm the rooms. He liked showing off for the others, I think. They were appropriately impressed!! So was I!

SuperPickle wandered into the kitchen and OMG, before I could warn him he saw it!!p3310657 He held on to that jar of Zesty Pickles and tried to get them out but I had to gently tell him they aren’t like him, all super and everything. They can’t fly. They can’t play. They have to stay in the brine or they go bad. He was sad but after a decent amount of grieving, I was able to get him back on track and then all was fine. {smack self on head! } I am so sorry I didn’t think to get those zesty dills out of the house so as not to upset him!

p3310658

Meanwhile Bongo, (that cutey!) just jumped around from the pot rack in the kitchen to the palm tree in the sun room, happy as a good monkey should be!!

The three of them will accompany me for a little adventure tomorrow. Stay tuned for all the fun!!

randomness, mental debris, physical exhaustion

I know, I KNOW! I haven’t posted anything in a week! I am mentally sans muse!     This is the most random bunch of shite I have ever considered posting but hey. …You’re here. You might as well continue reading the post, eh?

  1. Someone pinged me from a Swedish language site and I think I know who she is but regardless I am learning how to use Google Translator and I commented on her post, too, because that’s the kinda gal I am!  How cool is it that someone in Sweden reads my blog!
  2. My amazing, handsome, and brilliant son, Dobeman, made some very nice remarks after spending a long weekend here with his bio-mom. BUT I think I have to do some upgrading on my interior decor. I was already considering a new sofa and a new dining room ensemble but now it is a priority! Have you ever entered the home of someone who has lived in their home for 20 years or more and right away you know the the year the moved in, because nothing has really changed? It’s not retro! It’s just freakin’ old!  If I have to eat Skippy Creamy  PB (’cause meat is so damned expensive!) then so be it! I will have moved into the year 2009 rather than living in 19-frickin’-81 which is what my home screams when you see the decor!
  3. My oldest daughter is 7-months pregnant and being quite nasty to her family. She tries, God knows, but she may just drive us all ’round the bend by the time this little boy is born.
  4. bearcold4Man Colds are deadly and insufferably bad! Ask D’Bear! His is worse than anything I have ever suffered through. They always are. 🙂 To his credit he was absolutely amazing this past weekend. He came all the way down to my house after work on Friday, a drive of over three hours to spend some time with my family and me. He had never met my son, Dobeman, and I was dying for them toget to know each other. I see so many similarities between them.  Both work in the computer field, (tech writer, marketing, PR, for Dobeman..software engineering for D’Bear), both are Conservatives, both are cautious and frugal with their money, both have a wicked sense of humor and a love of wine and music and literature.  Unfortunately poor Dobeman came down with a bad sinus infection and a head cold just before his trip here and THEN D’Bear comes down with his nasty bug as soon as he gets home on Monday!
  5. What the HELL is going on with the male bloggers here on WordPress??? Both my darling bad-boy Evyl and my sweet-but-nasty Spidey have been noticeably absent of late. I am a little concerned about that!
  6. I have to have another colonoscopy. Yeah, I know…TMI! But seriously! Two years ago I had a couple of nasty, pre-cancerous polyps removed so I have to do this scope-up-the-ass thing every two years!  The only good thing about it that after 24 hours of fasting and laxatives, I lose between 6-8 pounds and I feel PRETTY !! (Of course I am light-headed and starving but other than that… mah-velous!)
  7. steak_bjIf you missed Saturday’s amazing Holiday then make it a point to write down the date for next year. March 14th is the MAN VALENTINE’S DAY! Yes, you heard me. It was Steak & a Blow Job Day. HA!! D’Bear got two steaks this past weekend but with so much family in the house, he will have to take a rain-check on the rest of the Holiday’s promise!! HAHAHA!!! I hope your man got his!!
  8. Spring is on its way! YAY!!! I went outside without a heavy jacket today and I did not die of frostbite and hypothermia!!!!!! Soon here in Northeast PA we’ll be hearing this:
  9.  .  I’m making Beef Curry, Basmati Rice, Cucumber Lime Salad, and … I’m lost as to what else to feature on the menu for our Saturday dinner with the NY neighbors.  There are three couples, one on each side of the lovely D’Bear and then of course, us. All last summer we spent hours and hours on each others’ porches in the evenings, drinking wine, and sharing good food that we all contributed to the cause. When the cold of winter forced us inside we decided to start a sort of Supper Club. One  of us hosts a dinner each month.  This month is our turn and since I’ve served this recipe for Beef Curry several times to accolades I feel it will go over equally well with this group.ly I’ll have condiments like chopped peanuts, raisins or currants, shredded coconut, etc. but I am at a loss as to what else to make to round out the menu. I need one more thing as a side and a dessert. Any ideas?
  10. Yesterday I watched the Martha Stewart Show and guess what!! She’s getting fat!  She had Marcia Cross from Desperate Housewives on and Martha looked HUGE next to her!  Yes, Ms. Martha of the “I am a former model and I am so much richer than you!” fame. Yep, she and Oprah have packed on some poundage! If Oprah tries to tell me ONE MORE TIME how to lose weight I’m gonna take a gun to my TV!  How can she preach to millions of women (and she does!) and not see the irony?       OK, that sounds mean , but Boo-fucking-Hoo.

OK, that’s today’s scintillating post, y’all. Thanks for making it to the bottom of the page. Comments are not only welcome but incredibly appreciated!!

Day 2 with my Buddies

This time change messed with my head. I woke up at 7:45! Normally I am awake without an alarm clock between 6:30 -7:00!

The Buddies, Nibble, Posey, and Lulu were waiting patiently for me to lift my head up and then they pounced! I was bounced upon and patted and giggled at! I’m not used to that! I liked it!

We had a leisurely breakfast, toast and coffee for me, grains and veggies for the Buddies. After primping and brushing we all piled into my little Subaru and headed into town.

Lulu and Posey almost wet themselves when they saw this truck in front of us with one of the baling wires loose. The hay was blowing all over my car and the two of them were hootin’ and hollerin’!

Grade A Prime for Horsies and Heifers!

Grade A Prime for Horsies and Heifers!

I had to run to WallyWorld for some things so they stayed in the car. My purse was too small for them all to fit in so they agreed to sit quietly while I shopped. When I came back out, they had a guilty look on their faces and I knew they had been up to no good. I still don’t know what they did. Maybe over the course of time they’ll tell someone.

We stopped at the waterfall along Rt. 6 for a closer look. They thought the water was pretty but I had to warn them not to get too close.p31106241

Next was a drive along Church Street where Nibble thought this furniture store had an interesting feature: a giant chair on the roof!

Then we stopped to admire the Library at Seven Maples.

Meanwhile Mr. Nibble was left to his own devices and I came down and found him wrestling with Al Ligator! I thought he was a goner for a minute-

But luckily Mr. Nibble won that round and they shook hands and are now good friends!

Day 1 with The Buddies!

Well, I arrived home from Rochester to find three wonderful new friends there waiting for me! I barely had time to unpack the car and turn the heat up before these little cuties started having some fun!

While I made lunch they found my grandson’s toybox and they started burning off some of that pent up energy they must have had after traveling so far.

Wheeeeeee!!!!

Lulu LOVED the motorcycle! What a hot little biker babe she is!!

Then Nibble wanted a turn on the motorcycle and started chasing Posey so I had to put a stop to the rowdiness before somebody got hurt.

I did manage to calm them down after that . I put out a simple salad of grass and carrots and fresh juice but they vetoed the juice for something stronger. I gave in, thinking it might make for a wee bit quieter afternoon since I had lots of unpacking to do!

D’Bear and I had a busy weekend before I returned home. We took a tour around Seneca Lake and stopped at some of the great wineries there. D’Bear made friends wherever we went! It seems that wineries and kitties go together!

They were all pretty tuckered and went quietly to bed after I promised them I would take them into town with me tomorrow. We’re only running in to do some errands but I will show them the sites and let them meet some of my friends!

They asked me to say “Good night” to their Mommies, JavaQueen, Joan, and Nikki, so ladies, rest easy. Your girls are all tucked in for the night, safe and sound.

Merry Christmas

As I sit here at my computer waiting for all my loved ones to arrive safely, I am pondering all my blessings.

You, my blogging friends, are incredibly precious to me. You’ve helped make this past year something bearable and oftentimes, wonderful!

As some of you know, I filed for divorce from my husband of 33 years back in July. It has been a bitter and sweet time for me, a time for re-learning who I am and for learning to allow myself to be loved again.

Thank you all for being that comforting presence in my life, that constant warm stream of friendship, laughter, and thoughtfulness. As I look back I realize just how much your friendships have meant to me. Many nights my fears and doubts kept me awake into the wee hours but you all kept me sane and comforted.

Thank you.

And I wish you all a blessed and happy time spent with the ones you love, eating, drinking, dancing, laughing and loving !

Please enjoy this video of my favorite song for the special time that is Christmas.

Merry Christmas

from your friend,   Trisha
